My CARE progress

CARE: My progress so far

The CARE award that I am working towards is my silver.

The one area of CARE that I am doing best in is Excellence because I try my hardest in my learning.

The one area of CARE that I need to work harder in is Community because if there is rubbish on the ground I wouldn't pick it up but now I'm going to try and pick it up.

To show my leadership qualities I am a role model to others in the CARE values by doing/showing these leadership traits, Integrity

On the CARE SOLO matrix below I am at this SOLO level Relational because I try my best to demonstrate the care values.

Prestructural

Unistructural

Multistructural

Relational

Extended Abstract
I am not aware of the CARE values yet.
I know what the CARE values mean.

I need help to use them.
I can use the CARE values.

I need reminding to use them.
I can use the CARE values independently.
I can use the CARE values independently.

I can role model to others how to use the CARE values.

I can take action to improve the water cycle in Canterbury

In this project I was working with Teiken and we decided to create a water filter.

In this project we decided that our success criteria were: It needs to be long lasting, the right materials, it needs to be portable, it needs to be clean and drinkable water and it needs to be easy to use.

Overall our project met this criteria because we were able to use the materials that we needed and we also made it small enough so that you can carry it around.

Apply the techniques of improvisation to a range of different scenarios

WALT Apply the techniques of improvisation to a range of different scenarios.

The improvisation TECHNIQUE that I have used successfully is mime.

The Improvisation TECHNIQUE that I would like to have more practice at always say yes.

The thing that I enjoyed most about this unit of learning was the skits
because they were fun.

The thing that I found most challenging during this unit of learning was coming up with things on the spot because it's really hard to come up with something to say on the spot.

My favourite improvisation game was yes and because you also had to come up with it on the spot.

My next step/ something I need to work on further in improvisation is trying not to laugh because it just puts everyone off.

Water Cycle

This is my Water Cycle information report.

The Water Cycle
The water cycle is a process that water goes through between land, sea and atmosphere. The water is always recycled throughout the water cycle, the water changes states throughout the water cycle ( it changes between liquid, gas and solids ). The steps in the water cycle are evaporation, condensation, precipitation and runoff.

Evaporation is when the water from the ocean, lakes, rivers and streams get heated up by the sun and turns into water vapour ( gas ). Evaporation is a process that turns water into gas but it is invisible, the humidity is the amount of water vapour in the air. On hotter days the evaporation happens faster than on colder days. When the water has turned into gas it rises up into the atmosphere and then forms a cloud which is called condensation.

Condensation and Precipitation, condensation is the process by which water vapour in the atmosphere turns into water. Condensation is the exact opposite to evaporation. After condensation, the size of water droplets in the sky get bigger as more and more water particles bump into each other. After the precipitation has fallen it turns into groundwater and runoff.

Runoff and Groundwater, Runoff is the precipitation that did not get absorbed into the soil or didn’t evaporate, and therefore made its way from the ground surface into places that water is collected. Only 35% of the evaporation ends up in the ocean or sea, the other 65% is absorbed into the soil. Runoff causes elosion and also carries chemicals and substances on the ground surface along to the river’s where the water ends up.

The water cycle is a non stop process the steps in the cycle are Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation and Runoff and Groundwater. The water is always recycled and there are three different states they are Liquid, gas and solid.

Adverbial clauses

Walt - I can make links across texts by recognising connectives or adverbial clauses.

For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning boring because it was too easy.

In this activity link to adverbial clause activity, I had to change some of the wording with the adverbial cluases that were underneith the sentences.

I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns.

Walt- I can recognize and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns.

In this unit I have been learning about:
  • The parts of speech.
  • The types of nouns.
  • The types of sentences.

In this unit, I found challenging discovering Nouns, Adjective, Collective noun and Abstract noun.

Something new I learnt what a collective noun is and what a abstract noun is.

Reason with linear propertions

WALT: - Order fractions with unlike denominators by finding a common denominator
I have been learning to work with fractions that have unlike denominators. Here are 3 screenshots to show my new understanding:
1.
2.

3.

My next step is: to use prime numbers, common factors and multiples, and powers (including square roots).

Maths Measurement

Walt 1- Deduce and use formulae to find perimeters and areas of polygons and the volumes of prisms.
Walt 2- Find the perimeters and areas of circles and composite shapes and the volumes of prisms, cylinders.

I had to do 3 activies on perimeter and 3 activities on area, This is my progress in perimeter.

That is my progress in perimeter we had to get 90 percent to say that we finished it.
Now here is my progress in Area, we had to get up to 85 percent because we found that area was harder and we couldn't complete it.

My next step is volume and calculating the
                                                                                                                       areas of circles.

My CARE Progress

I have done a check of my CARE progress so far this year.

I am proud of my progress

I am proud of my progress because I only need around 13 more highlights on my chart.

How far away are you from reaching your BRONZE I only need around 13 more highlights on my chart.

The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E because sometimes if I walk past a peice of paper on the ground I wouldn't pick it up, but now I am going to try and pick it up.

To achieve my BRONZE/SILVER award quicker I need to Record down my ticks the day I got them because sometimes I forget to record my ticks

The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is pick up paper when I walk past it.

We will review CARE progress again at the end of the term.

Student Led Conference Reflection

The thing I enjoyed most about my SLC was Sharing All of my reading Because I have made quite a bit of progress.

What went well and why, Sharing my reading went well because I was able to share a lot of my reading.

What were the challenges you faced when preparing and presenting your SLC, the challenges I faced in my student led conference was the amount of time I had to share my work.

What changes would you make for next time and why, I would use my timebetter because I didn't have enough time to finish my student led conference.

Visual Arts

Visual Art: WALT: Apply knowledge about shapes and patterns derived from nature into an original artwork

For Visual Art the SOLO level I achieved was Extended Abstract because I was able to use all of the different techniques and Use different colours that match with the other colours.
The techniques I used in my art work to achieve this level were Moving Water colours, Shading and Glazing.

Here is a photo of my art work

My next step in visual art is to use a different range of Techniques and Skills. I want to use the skill of shading a bit more and use the skills of Moving water colours and Glazing more.

Reason with Linear Proportions

WALT - Reason with Linear Proportions

Here is an example of some of the question that we had to answer.
These questions are for the activities called Percent of change and Compare Percents of Numbers.

This question is for the activity Percent of change.
What is the percent of decrease from 600,000 to 300,000?

Write your answer using a percent sign (%).

Here is how I worked it out

I started by working out the difference of the two numbers which is 300,000 and then you divide the number by the first number (when you divide you have to use the first number) so it would be 300,000 Divided by 600,000 and then you times it by 100 and then you will get your answer.

Here is an example of a question

Here is some of my progress

This question is for the activity Compare Percents of Numbers.
This is how I worked it out

Firstly I used calculator to help me to work out all of the calculations and then what I did was I calculated 30x30%= 9 and then I did 9 Divided by 100 which = 0.09 and then that is the answer.

Vocabulary Assesment

WALT - I can use my growing wide range of academic and content-specific vocabulary to understand texts.

This is my Reading assesment for Vocabulary.

Is a void messy? Why or why not?
No Because it is a empty space.
Which color is the most fluorescent at night? Why?
Yellow because it is a really bright colour.
Why are elderly people more vulnerable than children? Why?
Because elderly people’s bones are older and they can’t get away from danger in a hurry.
Which is more interconnected; a vine or a dandeloin? Why?
A vine because they can grow in all different directions.
Which is more seldom; the Olympics or an election in NZ? Why?

My Short Story

For this piece of writing I have focusing on my vocabulary and punctuation. I have been learning to: use a range of precise vocabulary to communicate meaning and use all basic punctuation independently and attempt more complex punctuation (e.g semicolons, colons, parentheses)

The pieces of my writing that are highlighted green are where I have shown my vocabulary and punctuation goal

THE BACKLANE CRIME

James Hagrid is a 24 year old and he works as an Undercover Police Detective in New York City. He has been working as an Undercover Detective for 4 years and there is one crime scene that hasn’t been solved for 4 years and it happened for just before Detective James was recruited.

When Detective James went to the crime scene on the 9th of May (Tuesday night) to look for leads to find out who killed Johnny McStiffenson, waiting for him there is the man who killed Johnny McStiffenson. He looked Detective James in the eye and threatens to kill him as well, and then dashed off so Detective James paced it after him and he chased him down an alleyway called backlane lane then Detective James runs out of breath and he has to stop. Once he gets his breath back he starts to hunt him down again and he chases him all over town, now Detective James has had enough so he calls in the Special Arms forces to chase him down. But luckily for him he has led the cops right to his 2014 Lamborghini, it was an awesome car for someone who probably lives in his car but I mean he probably stole it or bought it with the money he stole. It was pimped out it looked pretty awesome, I bet that this would be Detective James’s Dream car. The thing is that Detective James was actually dreaming he only had a piece of dirt Toyota it was a 4 door car but it only had 2 doors because he had been in too many police chases. But anyway back to the police chase, they chased him for 2 hours and they had to bring in tanks and police choppers, there were so many police on the chase. They chased him right through the city and all the way out to the dessert, and that was where they stopped him and arrested him. They found out his name and his relations, and they researched his other police records and they found a lot from the past year.

His name was Alex Scott and they couldn’t find any other relations alive, He was arrested for 26 months in the NYSDOC Queensboro correctional facility. 20 months later…      Alex Scott has 6 months left in the NYSDOC Queensboro correctional facility and when he is released he will be under supervision for 4 months to make sure he doesn’t do anything like murder or things like that.

Term 1 Integrated Learning - Leadership

We have been learning all about What makes a good leader.

We identified that good leaders show 6 main character traits. These are Integrity, Trustworthy, Resilience, Goal Focused, Active Thinker and Motivational.

The leadership trait that I think I show the most is Resilience because when I fail to achieve something the first time I keep on trying to achieve it the second time.

The leadership trait I would most like to develop is Active Thinker so I can develop my thinking to come up with new ideas and extend ideas.

Something NEW I have learned about leadership is that it is a skill of being able to motivate people/teams to work towards a goal.

The SOLO level that I reached during this unit of learning is Extended-Abstract because I can evaluate the effectiveness of a leader.

My next step in learning about leadership is to apply everything that I have learned about leadership to my own leadership roles.

Music

WALT - I can describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place

Over the past 7 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place.

I can describe these characteristics in a piece of music
Melody- A procedure of single notes that is interesting and enjoyable.
Harmony- A combination of musical notes to make it effective.
Timbre- Is a quality of a musical note or sound.
Form- Form refers to the overall structure or plan of a piece of music.
Rhythm- Is a pattern in music that represents that certain type of music.

Here is an example of my learning
